FAQs
The best way to care for your silk bedding is to hand wash it at low temperatures with a PH neutral, or silk safe detergent.
Don’t feel like hand washing? No worries, our sheets are machine washable! Just pop them in the washing machine with a silk safe detergent on a delicate cycle at a maximum of 30℃. We also recommend using a delicate laundry bag to avoid any snagging.
To preserve the sheen of the silk, iron inside out on a cool setting.
Line dry only, do not put your silk bedding in the dryer.
Our full silk cot sheets are designed to fit a standard cot bed and a mattress that measures 140x70cm. As our sheets are fitted, they will easily fit any mattress thickness as well as slightly bigger or smaller mattresses.
Yes, all our sheets are fitted which means they will accommodate slightly bigger or smaller mattresses, as well as various mattress thicknesses.
Yes, your baby can sleep on our silk sheets all year long. Silk is a natural and breathable material that helps regulate your baby's body temperature, keeping them cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Your baby‘s safety is our top priority. Silk is a natural, breathable and hypoallergenic fabric. It is not only safe, it is also recommended by dermatologists and doctors to prevent skin irritations and allergies.
We are dedicated to promoting safer sleep for all babies and are happy to share that we have become a partner of The Lullaby Trust by supporting their research.
Silk sleeves are bands of silk that are wrapped around the baby’s mattress, usually at head level, instead of using a silk sheet. Silk sleeves are typically cheaper than sheets because they use less fabric. Unfortunately, those sleeves are not considered safe. Babies can easily trap an arm, a leg or even their head under the sleeve. At The Little Silk, we make sleep safety our priority and we do not sell any sleeve type products.
People often confuse silk and satin because they look similar and both have “smooth” textures. Some stores and brands also play on words to confuse shoppers even more and call their satin “silk satin”.
The truth is that satin is nothing more than 100% polyester (plastic), which means it doesn’t share all the benefits of real silk. Satin is not breathable, nor hypoallergenic, and even creates static electricity.
Sleeping on satin will be very uncomfortable and cause your baby to sweat because satin reflects the body heat. It is hence not recommended.
Satin is made out of polyester (plastic) which is extremely cheap to source, so satin sheets will always be cheaper than real natural silk. The downside is that satin/polyester will be uncomfortable to sleep on, and is not recommended for sheets. Who would want to sleep in a plastic bag?
Satin is made from synthetic fibres and is not breathable, which can make it feel hot and uncomfortable to wear or sleep on. Silk, on the other hand, is a natural fabric that is hypoallergenic, breathable, and temperature regulating, making it more comfortable for your baby.
While sleeping on a silk sheet is certainly not a magic solution that will make your little one sleep through the night, it can certainly help. Silk will provide your baby with a comfortable, breathable, hypoallergenic and temperature regulating sleeping environment. Many babies also enjoy the soft texture of silk and stroke it to settle themselves to sleep. If your little one suffers from skin rash, sleeping on silk will also help soothe the hitching.
Baby hair loss is mainly caused by the friction between your baby's delicate hair and the sheet. Silk’s smooth surface greatly reduces that friction which in turn allows the hair to regrow. For faster results, we recommend using silk to cover every surface that comes in contact with your baby’s head. Many customers use our silk pillowcases to cover the back of their little one’s bouncy chairs for example.
Yes, silk sheets can help with skin rashes. Silk is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, mould, and mildew, which can trigger allergies and cause skin rashes. The smooth texture of silk also reduces irritation for babies with sensitive skin or eczema.
Silk fitted cot sheets offer several advantages over cotton sheets. They are smoother and gentler on your baby's skin, reducing friction and irritation. Silk is also hypoallergenic and helps regulate body temperature, providing optimal comfort for your baby throughout the year.
